Rural Craft Award
The Melplash Agricultural Society is launching a new competition for Rural Crafts. The competition will be open to craftsmen and women living within a twelve mile radius of Melplash Church and who derive their livelihood or a greater part of it from their craft. Entrants will be judged in the summer months working on site or in the workshop. Pictured is Guy Gale thatching the ridge of Rose Cottage, Netherbury with Ian Hobday his assistant.














Our new competition for 2013 is the Best Bridport Banger which will be judged by Richard Balson of RJ Balson & Son Butchers in Bridport, Britain's oldest family butcher. Whether sausage making is your hobby or part of your business this is a fantastic opportunity to gain recognition for your product. Open to anyone who makes their own pork sausages. Closing date for entries is Friday 16th August 2013 - 5pm.
The Riverside Restaurant in West Bay is offering prizes for the best Seafood Chowder. Open to amateur cooks of all ages, male or female. All entries and the winning seafood chowder will be on display in the ‘By the Sea Marquee’. Prize giving will take place on show day at 12 noon on Thursday 22nd August 2013.
The Melplash Agricultural Society Flocks competitions reward local farmers for their shepherding skills and flock management. There are three awards given:
The Melplash Agricultural Society’s aim is to support and promote local farming and the annual Farms competitions is in place to give local farmers a chance to gain recognition for their good husbandry and dedication. There are 3 categories: small (up to 300 acres), Mixed Large and Large Dairy.
The Taj Mahal in Bridport and Sea Spring Seeds in West Bexington are kindly offering prizes for the best curry. The winners will be the cooks recognised by the judges for producing the best curry. Judging will take place at the Taj Mahal on Wednesday 21st August and the winning curry dishes will be displayed at the show.
